Biography

Emily's career in medicine commenced during the onset of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, driven by the desire to help friends who were falling ill. Transitioning from a theater professional to a nurse practitioner, Emily has since devoted her career to caring for individuals living with HIV. She has gained profound insights into both medicine and life from her patients, witnessing the evolution of HIV from a fatal disease to a manageable chronic condition.

Emily's mission has always been to provide compassionate care for those often marginalized in traditional healthcare settings. By addressing the stigma associated with HIV, she has created a welcoming environment founded on love and respect. Her holistic approach includes primary care, women's health, sexual health, sports medicine, mental health, and Hepatitis C treatment, ensuring comprehensive care for the whole person.

In addition to her clinical practice, Emily has been instrumental in HIV prevention efforts. She participated in the clinical trials for PrEP and established tele prep programs, celebrating the availability of this preventive measure. For the past decade, Emily has extended her expertise to Uganda, where she founded a clinic staffed by Ugandan health workers. This clinic serves a community of 4,000, offering primary care, infectious disease management, and maternity care.

Emily finds great fulfillment in her work, viewing it as both a profession and a calling. Outside of her professional endeavors, she enjoys yoga, cycling, and hiking. She has a grown son who is her pride and joy. Emily is committed to contributing to the world through activism and kindness, guided by the motto: "Be Fearless, Be Kind." She believes that life is filled with kindness, often found in unexpected places.
